Presentations

NOTE: In addition to his original presentation, Prem now has a new presentation available when speaking at your society, "Orchids In Our Backyard: Florida's Wild Orchids", Part 2, which introduces a new cast of characters taken from our wild areas in Florida.

Prem is passionate about teaching folks about the wild orchids living in the state of Florida, as he has been observing them for two-thirds of his life. His presentation has often elicited numerous spontaneous "ooh"s and "aah"s, as well as a number of "hmm"s as Prem not only presents our native orchids in all their artistic beauty, but also educates on their environment, structure habits, distribution, and threats to their continuing survival. Many people are not aware of the beauty growing within just a few miles of where they live, work, and play in our own "Land of Flowers". Prem seeks to change that with his two presentations: "Orchids in Our Backyard: Florida's Wild Orchids", Part 1 and Part 2.

April 2009: Exhibit at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary:

April 2009: Prem's photography was featured at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples, Florida for the entire month of April. Corkscrew Swamp itself is an amazing place. Run by the Audubon Society, it features over two miles of boardwalk snaking through a number of south Florida environments, including one of the few remaining stands of old growth Bald Cypress trees in the entire United States. A number of species of orchids, both epiphytic and terrestrial, inhabit the swamp, many of which are visible from the boardwalk. Perhaps the most famous orchid of all is the aptly named "Super Ghost" orchid - a massive, old plant high in a cypress well off of (but still within sight of) the boardwalk. The "Super Ghost" has had as many as twelve flowers open at once during its blooming season.
